Bulletproof vests are legal in most countries.

United States law restricts bulletproof vests for convicted criminals. Many US states also have penalties for possession or use of body armour. In other states, such as Kentucky, they do not prohibit possession, but deny probation or parole for a person convicted of certain violent crimes while wearing body armour and carrying a deadly weapon.

Canadian legislation makes it legal to wear and to purchase body armour such as bullet proof vests.
